Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on Friday informed Bharatiya Janata Party MLAs that the Public Works Department (PWD) has been allocated Rs 500 crore to issue new work orders. He also assured them to fix meeting with the Principal Chief Engineer (PCE) of PWD to fast track developmental works in their respective constituencies.
The meeting of BJP's legislature wing chaired by Parrikar was held on Friday at Assembly Complex, Porvorim, with only seven MLAs attending the same - Bicholim MLA Rajesh Patnekar, Calangute MLA Michael Lobo, Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida, Mormugao MLA Milind Naik and Valpoi MLA.
"CM has assured us that he will fix meetings of all MLAs with PWD PCE so that developmental works in their constituencies can be taken up on fast track. He has also told us that Rs 500 crore have already been allocated to PWD to issue new work orders", informed an MLA who attended the meeting.
"CM has also told us that there will be no new recruitments at the moment. It will take a while for government recruitment to begin", said the MLA. Speaking to media persons after the meeting, Parrikar informed that PWD can issue work order upto Rs 500 crore with this sanction.
"With this, bills will not remain pending for more than two months. Earlier the bills used to be kept pending for 8-9 months. This year I've already given `1200 crore for developmental works," he said.
